The United States, Canada, Mexico will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time. The largest global tournament in football with 48 teams will start on June 11, 2026, and end on July 19. A total of 104 matches will be held in 16 venues in 16 cities in 3 countries. So far, 30 teams from different continents of the world have confirmed their places in the main stage. The hosts, the United States, Canada and Mexico are participating without qualifying. In addition, the tournament’s team list is rapidly approaching completion as teams from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America and Oceania are joining one after another.
Asia
Eight teams from the Asian region will go directly to the World Cup stage. Japan, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar and Uzbekistan have already confirmed their tickets for the main stage.
Europe
Although the quota for the European region is 16, only three teams: England, France and Croatia have been able to confirm their place in the World Cup so far. The remaining 13 European places are still in the qualifying round.
South America
There are 6 quotas in the South American region. Six teams have already qualified for the World Cup by showing their strength in the qualifying round. This list includes Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador and Paraguay.
North and Central America
Apart from the 3 host countries, the United States, Canada and Mexico, the remaining three places are still waiting to be occupied. Currently, 12 teams are still fighting – Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Suriname, Jamaica, Curaçao, Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti and Nicaragua.
Africa
9 teams from Africa will go directly to the World Cup. All of them have been finalized. Africa will be represented on the world stage by Algeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Cape Verde and South Africa.
Oceania
New Zealand will play directly in the World Cup from Oceania. New Caledonia will go to the play-offs.
Final play-off
Two teams from the final play-off will get a place in the main stage. For which 6 teams will compete (1 Africa, 1 Asia, 2 CONCACAF, 1 Oceania, 1 South America). The play-offs will be held in March 2026, which will be organized as a test event at the host country’s venue.
